PENANG CM MEDIA STATEMENT ON 15 MAY 2015
The Penang government will stand together with Putrajaya when it comes to matters involving national security, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said today.
On attempts by thousands of Rohingya refugees trying to enter Malaysia, including Penang, through the sea, he said both state and federal governments should put aside their political differences and stand together on common ground."
Lim said he also did not want to be seen as taking political advantage of the issue, which he added that both state and federal government must have a common stand on.
"But whatever is said and done, the people in the boats must be given proper food and medicine on humanitarian grounds," he said.
Asked if he agreed with the Malaysian authorities’ move of turning away the refugee boats, Lim replied: "I never said I agree."

PENANG CM MEDIA STATEMENT ON 24 MAY 2015
Penang turns down suggestion to house Rohingyas, says report.
Penang wants Putrajaya to house the Rohingya and Bangladeshi refugees in land owned by the federal government, reports The Star.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said this was because the state had limited space, both on the island and the mainland.
Lim also reiterated that Penang needed to be kept abreast of any plans to host the migrants in the northern state.- See more at: http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/penang-turns-down-suggestion-to-house-rohingyas-says-report#sthash.8Rg5RdlM.dpuf
Needless to say more, the Penang CM is taking advantage of the Rohingya's issue for his political mileage (although he denied it). From his statement on 15th May, he said that the State Government will stand together with the Federal Government in tackling the issue. However, when asked to assist in placing the Rohingyas temporarily, he stumbled at first, then the next day refused to cooperate stating that there is not enough room to cater them in Penang. It shows that there is no sincerity in helping at all as what he portrayed in his statement earlier. For those skeptics who say the Federal Government is sabotaging Penang, please bear in mind that Penang is chosen due to its strategic location for this specific humanitarian mission. Additionally, the CM was the first who asked the Federal Government to help the Rohingyas, and boldly saying they will cooperate in the humanitarian mission. Now, he is retracting his intention and leaving the Federal on her own. The Federal however will still continue the humanitarian aid and identify any Federal Government's land (although obviously it is much more limited than the State land) to house them temporarily after being rejected by Penang.
Pray for the Rohingyas and hope for the best ending to their ailment.
